We are love, love, loving Julian Fellowes' new upstairs-downstairs period drama
Downton Abbey, which we are gobbling up with delight Sunday evenings. Starring Hugh Bonneville, Dame Maggie Smith, Elizabeth McGovern, Penelope Wilton and a whole host of British film's finest, Downton Abbey is the story of a grand family (and an even grander estate) poised at the tumultuous beginning of the 20th century.
But enough about the story, can we talk about the clothes? Set in an Edwardian country house in 1912, costume designer Caroline McCall has opened up a sumptuous and elegant closet full of dreamy millinery, graceful goddess gowns, smartly tailored suits and gorgeous jewels. It's worth watching for the hats alone. Coming to Masterpiece Theatre soon, on ITV now.
