- It's Spring (supposedly)! Do you know what you're going to plant in your garden this year? High on my wishlist is nicotiana mutabilis (the spidery pink flower pictured fizzing out the top of this planter) whose white flowers change from white to dark pink as they age, and send out a pungent scent of pineapple! What's not to like?
- I came across this news story today about a blue-and-white vase that had been handed down through one family for generations, and turned out to be a museum-quality piece, selling for £1 million at auction.
- Can this be right? Is it true that state schools in Britain sent not one single female student to study physics at A-level in 2012? Shocking. Thank you Mr. Blunk for making physics awesomely fun in high school. It looks like the schools of Great Britain may need your help.
- For any of my American readers who doubt the awesomeness of socialized medicine and hear bad things about the British National Health, I direct your attention to this little piece of genius, the Lullaby Factory at Great Ormond Street Hospital. By transforming an awkward place landlocked between two buildings, the Lullaby Factory creates a calming and delightful atmosphere for the sick children inside the hospital. Yes!
- My peonies are starting to emerge from the soil, but to satisfy my craving for their delicious and buxom flowers, I'll be making a ton of peony corsages in the meantime!
